High School Hosts Book Bonanza at Edgewood Barnes and Noble

Tech High School is hosting a Book Bonanza at the Edgewood Barnes and Noble on Friday, December 10, 2010 from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m.

This Book Bonanza will serve as a fundraiser for the school’s first production of an annual event to showcase the talents of Tech High School students; it will also raise funds for competition spoken word team, the Robotics team, student ambassadors and the Tech High School library.

The school, which was founded in 2003, is engineering, communications and information technology-focused institution located in historic Reynoldstown and it serves about 230 students in grades 9-12.

Barnes and Noble is located at 1217 Caroline Street in Atlanta.

The DeKalb County School System will host two Community Meetings RE: Superintendent Search Process

Atlanta, GA--  The DeKalb County School System will host two Community Meetings in December regarding the DeKalb County Board of Education Superintendent Search Process. The public is invited to attend both meetings. 

The Community Meetings will be held at the following locations: 

  • Peachtree Middle School at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7 
  • Columbia High School at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9

The Board of Education is seeking a permanent superintendent for the DeKalb County School System.

Dekalb Parents... Special Meeting for You to Meet your State Senators and Representatives

Atlanta, GA--  The DeKalb County Council of PTA's has organized a special event that will allow parents in Dekalb County to come and partake in a forum with their State Senators and Representatives.

Parents will get the latest information that affects their children and their schools, and will have the opportunity to bring up many of the other educational issues they may care about.

Atlanta, GA--  Steve Harvey is looking for 100 high school students to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will open their minds, change their lives and help them shine their brightest. This year Essence magazine joins forces with Steve Harvey to make Disney’s Dreamers Academy the biggest, brightest and most mind-blowing event yet! The selected attendees will be encouraged to pursue their dreams by highly successful Disney mentors, celebrities, innovators and creators. They will work side-by-side and hand-in-hand with entertainers, culinary artists, financial wizards and magic makers – all have stories to tell and learning experiences to share.

Atlanta Public Schools Neighborhood Celebration Set for Oct. 2nd

Atlanta, GA-- The second APS Neighborhood Celebration is scheduled for 1 – 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2 at Maynard Holbrook Jackson High School.

The event, which is part pep rally and open house, celebrates and showcases APS neighborhood schools through displays and performances created by school staff and students from southeast Atlanta.

Thomasville Heights Elementary to Receive KaBOOM Playground on Sept. 11th

Atlanta, GA-- Thomasville Heights Elementary will receive a new playground this Saturday thanks to more than 200 volunteers, including teachers, students and the KaBOOM organization.

The kickoff ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, September 11 with the 3,600 square foot community playground expected to be completed by mid-afternoon.  A ribbon-cutting ceremony to dedicate the new playground is scheduled between 2:30 and 3:00 p.m.

The playground is sponsored by Foresters, a life insurance company, and KaBOOM, a national non-profit organization that works with local communities and schools to provide safe places to play for children and their families.
