Dekalb County CEO Ellis Joined Community Partners to Deliver Thanksgiving Meals to Needy Families

Atlanta, GA--  DeKalb County Chief Executive Officer Burrell Ellis, along with local community partners, distributed food to families today through Project Take Charge and "Family House”, two programs run by Decatur Cooperative Ministry (DCM), a community-based nonprofit organization that sponsors programs and services to prevent and alleviate homelessness among families. 

DCM’s Project Take Charge program assists DeKalb County residents in imminent danger of losing their home or utility service, and operates as an emergency food pantry and food cooperative for low-income households; “Family House”, DCM’s transitional housing program, provides interim housing and support to assists families with children move from homelessness to self-reliance.

“Government can’t do it alone, community organizations and the private sector cannot do it alone, but when we pool our resources, we can accomplish great things to help our community,” said CEO Ellis.

Atlanta, GA--  DeKalb County Chief Executive Officer Burrell Ellis, along with local community partners Feed the Hungry Foundation, Inc., The HoneyBaked Ham Company, Publix and Wayfield Foods, will donate food items to the food pantry of Project Take Charge, a homeless prevention and emergency assistance program sponsored by Decatur Cooperative Ministry (DCM) on Wednesday, Nov. 17, 10:30 a.m. at Belvedere United Methodist Church, 2915 Midway Rd. in Decatur.

Stone Mountain Family is a Finalist in the Parenting Magazine Road Trip Contest, But Needs Your Vote

Atlanta, GA--  Parenting Magazine's annual Family Road Trip sweepstakes has a Stone Mountain family as one of its finalists!!! Between now and November 15th all of us in America have the chance to vote for the family we think should win an all-expense paid road trip through several states while blogging about their experiences on Parenting.com. 

The Edmunds family consists of Mom Kristin and Dad Tim, who are childhood sweethearts who grew up with great road trip memories. They are hoping that winning the Family Road Trip will give them the opportunity to take their 4 year-old Brooke and 2 year-old Lauren on a family trip that will give their daughters the same sort memories, and they could use our Local Hometwon help to send them on their way.

New LEED Certified Model Home Built in Reynoldstown Tomorrow

Atlanta, GA--  The 1st model home for nearby planned Legacy Pointe development in Reynoldstown is all set for its ground-breaking.  It will be showcasing that it is affordable, and LEED-certification-eligible and will be hoisted in sections into place on prepared foundation on Tuesday 10/26th. The home will serve as sales center , and others to come.

Vote DeKalb, Encourages Early Voting

In an effort to increase voter turnout in DeKalb County, county officials are launching an early voting campaign—Vote DeKalb—to encourage voters to cast ballots prior to the Nov. 2 General Election. 

Thomasville Heights Elementary to Receive KaBOOM Playground on Sept. 11th

Atlanta, GA-- Thomasville Heights Elementary will receive a new playground this Saturday thanks to more than 200 volunteers, including teachers, students and the KaBOOM organization.

The kickoff ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, September 11 with the 3,600 square foot community playground expected to be completed by mid-afternoon.  A ribbon-cutting ceremony to dedicate the new playground is scheduled between 2:30 and 3:00 p.m.

The playground is sponsored by Foresters, a life insurance company, and KaBOOM, a national non-profit organization that works with local communities and schools to provide safe places to play for children and their families.
