Rob Hunter Out As Watershed Commissioner

ATLANTA -- Atlanta Watershed Management Commissioner Rob Hunter, the source of many angry e-mails to 11Alive News, will be leaving that position by the end of the week.

Hunter announced his resignation on Tuesday, but he will remain as a technical advisor on various issues, including a court-ordered overhaul of the city's water and sewer systems.

"I came to the city ... to implement the federally mandated consent decrees, manage the $4 billion capital program and organize the Department of Watershed Management," Hunter said in a prepared statement. "By the end of the year, I will have substantially accomplished those goals."

Hunter's time as commissioner has been marked by increasing anger on the part of many local residents, who have said that Hunter and the Department of Watershed Management have ignored significant billing problems and claims of overcharging on water bills.

DeKalb County COO Keith Barker Fired After Admitting Affair

DECATUR, GA -- DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis says he fired the county's chief operating officer, who admitted having an affair with a county employee.

Ellis said Thursday at a news conference that the COO, Keith Barker, came to him on Wednesday and admitted having the affair. Barker was the county's second-in-command.

The CEO's spokesman, Burke Brennan, said the fact that Barker is married and that the woman is a county employee both figured in the firing, based on Barker not meeting expectations for a high-ranking official.

Brennan says Barker, who did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment, was paid $200,000 a year and will get six months pay as severance.

The RGA Creates RoyBama

ATLANTA -- The Republican Governors Association has inserted itself again in the Georgia governor's race, launching a television ad statewide that hits hard at Democrat Roy Barnes.

The 30-second commercial aims to tie Barnes to President Obama.

The RGA has also launched a website entitled "Roybama." It takes aim on the policies of the president and former Georgia Governor Barnes.

The RGA is led by 27-year-old Georgia native Nick Ayers who helped lead Sonny Perdue to victory over Roy Barnes.

Speaking from his Washington D.C. office, Ayers was asked why the Democratic Governors Association has not countered with ads in Georgia.
